Aims
This training is designed to give participants a greater understanding of the effects of substance use on pregnancy and parenting. In particular looking at difference substances and their effects on both mother and unborn child, and how agencies can work better together to provide appropriate care and support for all the family.


Working with Gangs, Culture, Development, Risks and Strategies 2 day course
Aims
The purpose of this programme is to understand how UK gang culture is developed, how a young person's sense of self-identity can be related to gang culture and how young people become drawn into crime and anti-social behaviour when they define their identity through membership of a gang.


Working with stimulant using clients 1-day course
Aims
This course will aim to increase participants knowledge about stimulants; their physical, psychological and social effects and to dispel the myths about engaging with stimulant users

Managing Aggression 1-day course
The unpredictable nature of work within the Health and Social Care field can often give rise to situations, issues or incidents involving negative, difficult or aggressive behaviour between parties.

Learning Outcomes
  • To develop self-awareness and build confidence in responding to incidents that occur with clients
  • To identify manipulative behaviour and deal with it quickly and effectively
  • To understand what causes ‘difficult’ and aggressive behaviour(s) and how to address potential problems before they occur or manage them if they occur
  • To identify the difficult behaviour ‘triggers’ and learn practical steps to deal immediately with them
  • To understand why people behave differently in different situations

How to support and refer young people with mental ill health 1-day course
Aims
The course has a unique approach through having workers focus on identifying the symptoms of poor mental health when making a referral.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The course does not cover different diagnostic labels. This approach allows a worker to remain non-judgemental and leaves the actual diagnostic assessment to the clinician. It also gives the worker an understanding of the coping strategies to support the young person while they are waiting for a clinical intervention.
