The project aims were to provide an introduction to the music industry for sixteen clients of the In-volve HYAP Audio X course. Seventeen were accepted places and entered the programme.
The music business does not operate in a vacuum. It directly involves PR, marketing, product development, technology, distribution, logistics, administration and management. Indirectly it involves video and multimedia, radio and TV, the entertainment and fashion industries, advertising and merchandising. This presented an opportunity for the project participants to explore vocational and enterprise opportunities via their interest in music.
The prospective participants were predominantly and passionately interested in music production. However we thought that it was unlikely that they would become professional musicians or DJ’s in their own right. It was assumed that they might be able to enter the industry as part of the infrastructure as outlined above and even more likely that they will take the skills they have learned and apply them as transferable to any number of vocational or enterprise routes they may wish to apply themselves to. It is to their credit that eight of the group are now significantly involved in the industry and likely to progress as part time or even full time professionals in the music industry.
