Inclusion - Inspiration - Independence

In-Volve, which for over 20 years has been transforming the lives of people caught up in substance misuse, is recruiting additional Trustees.

Background
In-volve began in East London as a drugs education and advice project with two employees in 1987, and now works across England with many people other agencies find hard to help; starting with safety, inclusion and care, and giving them the confidence to learn and grow away from activities that harm themselves or others. In-volve is primarily interested in the development of innovative and high quality services that meet the needs of socially excluded people, particularly young people. We have specialist skills in education and treatment for people of all ages who use substances, and young people getting caught up in offending and violence. A special feature is In-volve's commitment to social inclusion irrespective of race, age, economic status, religion, sexual orientation, gender or disability that has enriched our workforce through development opportunities for service users and practitioners.

In-volve provides much more than drugs prevention and treatment services, even if they remain core to our business. We are a creative organisation full of diversity, fresh ideas and talents. We are a social and health charity first, and a public service provider second, as we work to make a difference in our communities and be the change we want to see.

We want to offer our support and expertise to any people and communities who can benefit from understanding the roots of harmful behaviours, and enable them to make positive changes in their own lives.

Why we want you
In-Volve is looking for Trustees who are committed to its founding ethos, and who want to make a real difference to the lives and health of people caught in substance misuse, young people, people affected by gun and gang cultures, helping communities break out of the cycle of deprivation and exclusion.

An effective Board needs a good mix of skills, knowledge and experience, drawn from a wide range of backgrounds. Trustees must fully support In-Volve's aims and objects and be committed to the charity's vision and values. You should be able to devote the necessary time and effort to the trusteeship, and be able to demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Integrity
  • Strategic vision
  • Independent judgement
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • The credibility and authority to work with

Who you might be
We would particularly like to hear from people with experience in any of the following:

  • Major donor and/or senior-level fundraising
  • Charity governance and law
  • Marketing
  • Business or finance in a large institution
  • Public policy and service development

What you will get
Trusteeship is a great way to make a significant difference to a charity or cause you care about. As a respected and responsible role, it is also a brilliant route to developing new skills, gaining more experience and getting involved with new networks. As Mahatma Ghandi said ìwe must be the change we want to see in the world.

I am interested. How can I be In-volved?
Please send in your CV or professional biography addressed to the Board Secretary, together with a short personal statement outlining the reasons for your interest in joining us. If you would like to speak to any of the current Trustees about the role and what it involves, please contact the Board Secretary by email: In-volve Head Office
